Measurement and Evaluation Workgroup

Taking on Diabetes relies on the expertise available in health plans. To gather this expertise, the Initiative has developed workgroups in four areas: collecting and disseminating best practices, building community partnerships, developing work site educational materials, and evaluating the success of the initiative. Each workgroup is composed of representatives from health plans, the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and initiative sponsors. Workgroups are responsible for reviewing Taking on Diabetes materials and providing input to the initiative’s advisory committee on the direction of the initiative.

Mission
The Measurement and Evaluation Workgroup evaluates the national success of Taking on Diabetes .

Duties
AAHP facilitates and oversees the collection of data for the national evaluation of the initiative. The workgroup is responsible for recommending measures to evaluate the initiative’s success and for assessing information requirements associated with those measures.

Membership
Membership in the workgroup includes staff, sponsors, ADA members and health plan quality experts with a background and/or interest in national-level measurement data and trend evaluation.

SIX MONTH GOALS - TIMELINE

May/June 1999: Initial Workgroup conference call.

July 1999: Establish the measurement set which will be used by Taking on Diabetes member plans to set the performance baseline and monitor progress pursuant to the goals of the initiative.

August 5, 1999: Workgroup meeting to be held in conjunction with the annual diabetes conference in Washington, DC.

September 1999: Determine evaluative criteria for determination of a "best practice" in diabetes health services delivery.

These criteria will be used by the Best Practices Workgroup as they select the best practices which will be included in a compendium and searchable database of health plan programs and systems for the management, treatment, and education of people with diabetes.
